News that Old Greenwich School’s beloved Pumpkin Lady” will be returning to campus this year spurred me to comment on the ever-increasing use by the media of the term “beloved”. You can’t escape it because it’s everywhere, used to describe animals, people, professions, businesses, bicycles — everything and anything. It’s almost as ubiquitous as “fascist”, but that’s for another post.
